Use of pointe ribbons?

Do pointe shoe ribbons have a use or just for decoration?

Can I go on pointe w/out ribbons?

Use of pointe ribbons?
Even if you used crossed elastics to keep you shoes on, I don%26#039;t think they would hold sufficiently. The ribbons don%26#039;t stretch and give better support. Without the ribbons, the shoes would probably slip off your heels.
Reply:although I%26#039;m not on pointe yet, I think that the point ribbons keep the shoe on and support your ankle.
Reply:never go up on point without ribbons! although some shoes come without them, it isn%26#039;t a good idea unless you have extremely strong ankles. just be sure not to tie them too tight or you could damage your ankle tendon. hope this helps!
Reply:I would think not, because they help bind the shoe to the foot for stability (and to prevent gapping)
Reply:I know some dancers do dance without ribbon so I know it%26#039;s possible. I think its just a personal preference though because i know some dancers whose shoes fall right off without ribbons and i know some who can do fine without them. So for some it might help keep the shoes on but i think its mostly a decorative thing.
Reply:Yes, but make sure they stay on and support the foot.
Reply:i liked using the ribbons as a little ankle support. i never tied them up my calf like you sometimes see, i always wrapped them tight around my ankle.
Reply:ribbons keep the back of the shoe on your foot and offer stability. you could dance without ribbons but it would be considerably harder to keep the shoe on your foot. especially when you go on demi-pointe.
Reply:Technically yes. But unless you have really good feet, the ribbons put the shoe right up to your foot to bend it better, so they are very useful in that sense.
Reply:its probable not best to because they do hold the shoe in place to some extent

A lot of teachers dont wear them cuz their ankles are probably already strong enough

but if your starting i would probably advise it
