Is it ok to wear pointe shoes just for a day, if you're not going to dance in them?

I%26#039;m getting married and my mother bought me some pointe shoes because she thought they would look nice on me with my dress. I really want to wear them, but I want to make sure its going to be ok. I will only be wearing them down the aisle and maybe for an hour before for pictures. Will it be safe if I just walk in them and take them off to keep for decoration. Please help, thanks.

Is it ok to wear pointe shoes just for a day, if you%26#039;re not going to dance in them?
As the other answers have indicated, pointe shoes are not comfortable footwear! They are extremely stiff and they can only be broken in over time while you are dancing in them, and that is only if your feet and ankles have been conditioned and strengthened before wearing them. If you have them now, all you will have to do is try them on and feel for yourself. It feels a bit like walking in swimming fins on land. They do not bend with your foot.

If you are considering %26quot;walking on your toes%26quot; in them, then that could be dangerous. Dancers feet and ankles are extremely strong, they have worked for months and sometimes years on conditioning their feet before they ever put a pair of pointe shoes on. And then they will tell you it is very difficult to break in your first pair. Trying to stand en pointe without the proper training can easily result in a twisted ankle. Not to mention the blisters you will have on your feet after wearing them a couple of hours!! Trained dancers get blisters on a regular basis when they wear their shoes, think of how many blisters a non-dancer would get!

And I am not even going to get into the proper fitting of pointe shoes.....it is impossible for someone to buy pointe shoes for someone else%26#039;s foot, they have to be professionally fitted to each individual%26#039;s foot.

When I had my wedding, I was dancing en pointe on a regular basis and teaching ballet. I had very strong feet and breaking in a pair of pointe shoes was not a problem. I considered wearing pointe shoes with my wedding dress. I decided against it. Even with my training and experience and how comfortable I was in a pair of pointe shoes, I knew from experience that after a couple of hours in them your feet are tired and achy, even when you are not dancing in them!

I would suggest buying a pair of satin ballet slippers and sewing satin ribbons on to tie around your ankles. You will get that ballet look without the pain discomfort and blisters!

Here are some links to sites that have satin slippers for sale.

Reply:Your mother bought them without you? Pointe shoes usually need to be fitted to whoever will wear them. They aren%26#039;t very comfortable either. But you can wear them if you want. If you do find that they aren%26#039;t as comfortable as you had assumed though, you can always by some ballet flats which look very similar but are often decorated with sequins or small beads. You can buy them plain though as well. I think it%26#039;s a very creative idea as long as you%26#039;re comfortable in them.
Reply:i just had to say... what an awesome fashion statement. (if you like the effect, and if you are comfortable wearing the shoes, then all the more power to you.)
Reply:Pointe shoes are WAY more uncomfortable than high heels so why would you want to wear them on your wedding day? Unless you%26#039;re like a dancer and they mean tht much to you.
Reply:They would be very lovely, but you will have MAJOR blisters for a long time after. Try shoes that are satin and look like them. if your mother bought them without you, they may be incredible uncomforatable. Sorry!
Reply:You probably mean ballet pumps. Pointe shoes are very uncomfortable and designed for dancing on pointe, so they have a hard part in the front which makes them longer.

The normal ballet soft shoe is suitable with a wedding dress, but if they are real pointe shoes, I wouldn%26#039;t recommend wearing them. They will make your feet look big and will trip you!
Reply:if you don%26#039;t get up on your toes without the proper training i%26#039;m sure its safe...but they aren%26#039;t very comfortable to wear just to wear...
Reply:You can get a similar look without actually wearing pointe shoes. Just get beautiful satin flats with satin ribbons to tie around your ankles instead.

TRUST ME, you don%26#039;t want to trip and fall on your wedding day for the sake of flashy footwear. (I wore 5 inch heels and nearly tripped and fell on my face up the aisle....really classy)

Besides, if they are really pointe shoes, the idea sounds prettier than your feet will actually look. You%26#039;ll walk funny, like a duck if you aren%26#039;t used to them. They aren%26#039;t meant to be walked in like normal shoes, you%26#039;re supposed to be on pointe in them.
Reply:I really hope you mean ballet slippers or ballet pumps, not pointe shoes. Yes, you will be OK wearing them for one day, but you will look funny. They are very specific professional shoes. Why pointe? Why not skates for ice skating or a pair of swimming fins? LOL. Pointe shoes have a big box in front that will make your walk clumsy unless you know how to walk like a ballerina. My frind who takes ballet let us try her old pointe shoes - they are one heck of uncomfortable shoes to walk in.
Reply:You should wear them around the house first to break them in.
